Digging through documents for admin, I learned that the company my Korean immigrant parents started – the foundation of Earth Therapeutics – was officially incorporated on 6 May 1976. So it turned 50 last week, serendipitously, during AAPI month.
50 is a happy number. Associated with the jubilee, a time for rejoicing, literally of “blowing the horn.” For businesses, it’s a rare milestone. The U.S. Census Bureau reports that only 12% of companies are older than 26 years – and only 0.5% last 100 years.
But I’ve never been much of a stats person. Instead, what I cherish is the lived experience of having witnessed the business in the making – and now being a part of its continuity. If I could distill its secret sauce to one word, it would be: commitment.
Nothing has a chance to grow without that initial commitment. I remind myself of this daily - in an age with too much choice, too much noise, too much information. Commit. Even for a week. Or an interval of your choosing. Until a habit takes hold.
In the ethos of our blog - greetings, earthling – you become what you do every day. Even in micro-doses. It all adds up, eventually.
Once convinced I couldn’t keep a plant alive, I have, through low-impact commitment and an inexplicable craving to touch soil, grown a veritable green house on my living room sill.
In celebration of our jubilee during this merry, merry month of AAPI May, I offer 25% off* our Gardener’s Hand Care Kit (Code: Jubilee25) – if you have the urge to grow something – or just run your hands through soil.
Happy blooming!
